On the first Saturday of May, America's best three-year-old Thoroughbreds assemble under the famous Twin Spires at historic Churchill Downs to race in the first leg of the Triple Crown. On this day, fans, celebrities and politicians mingle at the track. Since May 17, 1875, the Kentucky Derby has been the event to herald in Spring and Kentucky's social season.
